Ashes to Ashes ~ Shaz Granger (2 of 2)

And here be the second set! This is from the end of S3E7, in Luigi’s and then after (when Gene and Alex are otherwise occupied … erm). There was an Italian restaurant that would have been grand for this, but apparently it’s closed.

I was more than a little pleased to be told that one of the show’s creators likes and approves of these photos, and apparently they’re eventually going along to Ms. Montserrat Lombard herself. No pressure — I enjoyed doing these costumes, but she will always corner the market on adorable.

Again, if you want to see lots more, go to Megan’s Flickr — these are just my personal bests.

Basic infos — this outfit was primarily bought and adapted. I painted the patterns on the bracelets, and the ‘Last Exit’ logo on the shirt was hand-painted, too. Everything else was bought as-is, same wig from the previous costume.

Megan’s now on me to do the wedding dress — I just don’t know — I could never match that.

Hey, though! Come see me at RavenCon this weekend for fun! I’ll have some costumes, but I’ll also be doing a few panels, too. I’m hoping to finish putting lining and buttonholes in my latest costume to have it ready, so look forward to that.

Ashes to Ashes ~ Shaz Granger (1 of 2)

It’s been a while since Megan and I have had a chance to do a photo shoot together, but we managed two last time I went to visit. And as always, she has done a lovely job.

Both shoots are costumes belonging to Shaz Granger of Ashes to Ashes  (which we all know already that I adore): specifically, two outfits from late in third series. I’m dividing these up into two entries because there are quite a few. First ones are from Series 3 episode 5, this mad lovely teal and black ensemble she wore to a charity event. I had some photos done of this one before … but these just go above and beyond anything yet.

If you’d like to see the full set of both shoots, you can go to Megan’s Flickr — this here is just a set of my favourites. Costume by me, makeup by her.

Incidentally, these were taken in and around the Penny Lane Pub in Richmond. The people there are super nice and the food is also delicious.

Next set is a much simpler costume, but one I’m also rather pleased with. Sadly, the locals weren’t as kindly concerning our choice of location.

Photoshoot ~ Alex Drake

I’ve had a lot of things (both pleasant and unpleasant) going on in the ol’ life lately — death of a pet, injury that’s going to require physical therapy , eksettara — and sadly, these things have prevented me from doing my RavenCon report like I’ve been wanting to.  I promise within the next week you’ll see some super Luna-C stuff courtesy of our awesome photographer and videographer.

A bit back I posted some pics and video of my Alex Drake costume from Ashes to Ashes.  Well, the lovely Megan — having now seen a bit of the first series of said show after finishing Life on Mars — asked if I’d bring the dress up to her place for some photos.  Full makeup, a good 20 minutes of curling (and far more waiting) to get my hair pretty damn close to proper, and some absolutely astounding locations made for a very nice photoshoot indeed.

A clip for the uninformed (and sadly, BBC America has only shown two of the three series and doesn’t seem to want to put out DVDs) …

And now, here’s my version:

For those familiar with the show, particularly the first episode — is that bridge not utterly perfect?  It’s in Richmond, as are the rest of the locations.

Staging an Intervention!?

This weekend was Intervention in Rockville, MD, staged by the fantastic Onezumi Hartstein.  I was a guest and had a table in Artist Alley, and also got to show off a few new costumes.  And new books!  Once I got the angry owls off my computer, anyway …

More Alex Drake pics and a video!

Well, Rick’s uploaded our video from Shore Leave.  A couple bits of it are a little wonky (focusing on David at the beginning — lovely gentleman though he is — and then the pan-down of me … erm), but overall a good video.  Rick’s tweaked it to account for acoustics.

Also, a couple solo pictures cropped up, courtesy of our darling Em.

Shore Leave ~ ‘Ashes to Ashes’

I can’t believe I finished, but I finished!  Got Bolly all done.  Or, for the non-fans, Alex Drake from ‘Ashes to Ashes,’ as mentioned in my previous entry when I was showing off accessories.

Never heard of it?  Here’s the official BBC site.  (Just, if you plan to watch it, don’t look at any of the videos, because there are huge spoilers.)

I also went looking for a Japanese-language website for it for Yunmao, who wanted to see photos — I at least wanted her to know what it’s about and who the characters are.  Do you know what it’s called in Japan?  I freaking love this.  「キケンな女刑事 バック・トゥ・80’s」 (‘Dangerous Woman Detective: Back to 80’s’).  イエス! ♥

So, without further ado, here is Detective Inspector Alex ‘Bollinger Knickers’ (ボリンジャニカズ???) Drake, upon arrival in 1981:

Alex Drake ~ The Accessories

Yunmao has talked on her own blog about how cosplay has to do with showing respect and admiration for characters.  I really love both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, and as soon as I saw Alex Drake I knew I wanted to make something of hers to wear.  She’s a very strong character, but so’s anyone who can stand up to Gene Hunt.

The one I’m making is the first thing you see her wearing when she arrives in 1981.  Basically she’s gone undercover as a prostitute.  So yes, I’m dressing as a tom.  But it’s such an interesting costume.

While I work on the dress I’m also pulling together all the accessories I need for it.  There’s one thing in particular I just got in that I’m very excited about.

Ta-da!
