Katsucon ~ The Night of the Doctors

Remember that massive Doctor Who meet-up from Katsu? Well, that wasn’t the start of it. Friday night I ran into three other Doctors, and we had a heck of a great time doing photos and things. So here’s self (8), Bryan (War), Alex (10), and Connor (11) doing the things, photos courtesy (as always) of Paul Karpey.

Probably not the one you were expecting.

So not surprisingly, we’ve all stayed in touch, and further antics may ensue locally. Be excited. Or warned. Who knows.

Katsucon ~ The Almost Doctor

So whilst at the Doctor Who meet-up, I thought it’d be a little cute to find two Eleventh Doctors with different-coloured boots — a la the ganger storyline from ‘The Rebel Flesh’/’The Almost People.’ Primarily, I thought it’d be a bit of a cool thing to send to Matthew Graham, to show him the whole cosplay thing in action with something he’d written. Fortunately, I found two guys who, while not prepared at the moment, promised to have everything exactly right the next day. (Apparently this had been a plan of theirs at some point anyway.)

So thanks ever so much to Justin and Evan for being super good sports about this. They have many other fine costumes as well, some of which you can see linked in the Doctor Who meet-up album from the previous entry.

There are still more Katsucon photos to come, believe it or not, courtesy of Mr. Paul Karpey. Hang tight, because they will be coming … eventually!

MarsCon 2014 ~ No-Snow-Con

Usually MarsCon gets snowed in or iced over, but for some reason this year it decided to wait a couple weeks to pull that on us. So, while it was a bit on the chilly side, it was still possible to get around town and go outside and things.

As always, MarsCon is pretty laid-back, and I had a chance to snap a few photos of neat costumes while I was chilling.

Naturally, I was also there with Luna-C — and given the events of the last couple months, our show had a distinctly Whovian skew. Including a skit where the Ghosts of Doctors Past, Present, and Yet to Come had a little something to say about making kids cry on Christmas.

Was also thrilled to get a little hangout time with some of the Tangent Artists (and took them on their very first Cook-Out run), and had some quality Cards Against Humanity time with them and some other friends.

Sorry, I meant Cards Against HumaniTEA.

So yeah. If you found me at my table or after the show or elsewise, hello and nice to meet you! Up next, just a few random pictures of one of my newest costumes. Of which I’m rather proud. Next up, Katsucon!

RavenCon 2013 ~ My costumes.

[NOTE: This one’s an oldie. I’ve had trouble getting the pictures scanned and uploaded, hence the delay. Expect Shore Leave, Intervention, and PreCure photoshoot entries soonish.]

Sadly, as RavenCon isn’t quite as heavy a ‘costume’ con as others I attend, there weren’t many chances to go and get large amounts of photos like I do at, say, Katsu.  However, there were a couple of cool dudes doing a photo booth, and I decided to drop my weekend spending money there for some pics.

Thanks to both of them for putting up with me and for making this neatness happen.

First up, Claudielf.  Well, specifically, a version of Claudia Donovan from a Warehouse 13/Eureka crossover episode where the gang ended up in a VR video game.  I intend to make more Claudia costumes, especially since someone gave me a good cheap source of clip-in hair streaks.

Been hearing from a lot of other Claudia cosplayers about this one. Always happy to help!

Next, one that my aunt Diane recommended that I do — Madame Simza from Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  Specifically, her traveling outfit from late in the movie.  This involved a lot of layers and a lot of tailoring, but I like the outcome.

Another warm-weather costume. I hope to get more photos of this in fall or winter.

And finally, not a new costume, but one I had on hand just in case … my Eleventh Doctor, with Star Angel as Oswin Oswald.  The fez was borrowed from my friend Greg.

I want to do a photoshoot of nothing but Claras. I will be contributing to this cause soon.

More photos from more shoots coming soon. Thanks for your patience!

RavenCon 2013 ~ Rovin’ Con

This is one of the cons where I tend not to have a table, though that may be changing next year.  It’s also one of the cons where I tend to perform with Luna-C.  However, since they’re switching out the entertainment for a couple of years, the most I had on my plate were a couple of panels.

As always, want to thank the RavenCon staff for inviting me to take part.

Now, because I didn’t have a table, I didn’t have costumes going by every few seconds.  I also had to miss the masquerade because … well … food.  So I fear photos are a bit scant this year, but the ones I did find were very neat.

I also made sure to make a stop-off at the Capclave party.  If you’re not familiar with them, they are a way-cool literary sci-fi convention (I’ve been told — never been but I’d like to go) and they throw way-cool parties.  Not only did they mix it up with a 1984/Brave New World theme, they also (as always) had piles and piles of free books looking for new homes.  One of my favourite places to drop in when I see them at a con.

Given a bit of time, as I’m doing some writing for other projects, I will add a few photos of my own new (for the most part) costumes.  Remember, if you see yourself in any of these photos, steal ’em for your own use.  If you have a link you’d like me to post here, let me know and I’ll do so!

MarsCon: The Luna-C Show

Well, while I’m waiting for information and pics to come in on the other stuff I did this past weekend at MarsCon, I’ll write up the big thing, which was my performance with Luna-C.

We always have a big (and very receptive) crowd at MarsCon, and the attendance was up by about 200 this year so we had our fair share of amused spectators.  Everything was fresh this year, and except for a wardrobe malfunction and my inability to remember a couple words of Chinese in a Firefly skit, I think I did all right.  The rest of the cast certainly did.

My main personal concern was I’ve had a bad cold for several days and my voice was almost completely gone.  Fortunately I had enough to get through the afternoon.  After that … not so much.

Hopefully there’ll be some videos up soon of skits, but in the meantime, here are some photos taken by Barb Fischer of the performance. More
